Shifters, Weres and CHANGELINGS, oh my!

My name is Dani Harper and I love the paranormal, wolves, sexy men, and coffee. Writing brings them all together for me!

My current shapeshifter series centers around the Macleod family, four brothers and two sisters. Long-lived and able to become wolves at will, their kind call themselves Changelings. Almost two centuries ago, they were forced to flee the wolf exterminations in Scotland and start a new life in the wilderness of northern Canada.

Today, that wilderness has been largely settled, and an entire community has sprung up around the Changelings. The Macleods and their pack live as humans most of the time, hiding in plain sight. They have jobs and pay bills and go to school and mow the grass and do all the things that humans do. But that doesn’t stop them from running as wolves in the night!

The Macleods seem to have the best of both worlds — yet there are still dangers lurking for their kind. And love, when it arrives, brings dangers and complications of its own. The two highest laws in the Changeling world are never harm a human and never turn a human against their will. The wolf within, however, has its own primal rules. If a Changeling’s life is in danger, the wolf will emerge to defend it. It wi
ll also rise to the surface, unbidden, to defend a mate at all costs. And Changelings mate for life!

CHANGELING MOON – The first in the series and a 2012 RITA Award Finalist.

He roams the moonlit wilderness, his every sense and instinct on high alert. Changeling wolf Connor Macleod and his Pack have never feared anything — until the night human Zoey Tyler barely escapes a rogue werewolf’s vicious attack. As the full moon approaches, Zoey has no idea of the changes that are coming, and only Connor can show her what she is, and help her master the wildness inside. With her initiation into the Pack just days away and a terrifying predator on the loose, the tentative bonds of trust and tenderness are their only weapons against a force red in tooth, claw — and ultimate evil.

CHANGELING DREAM – Book Two
In times of stress Jillian Descharme has always found calm in her dream of a great white wolf with haunting blue eyes. But she is startled when the visions return and this time seem so real. Late at night he comes to her, speaks to her, touches her….
Thirty years ago James Macleod lost his wife and unborn child to a killer bent on destroying the Changelings. Though he longed for death, his animal instinct fought for survival and James has been a wolf ever since. Yet now a woman has reawakened the man in him, taming wild instincts but arousing still wilder needs. With his ancient enemy hunting the legendary white wolf, James must fight for new life, new hope, new love.

CHANGLING DAWN – Book Three
Kenzie Macleod has spent her whole life hiding what she is, and she’s not about to open up to any man, even one as powerfully attractive as wildlife expert Josh Talarkoteen. But legend says that a Changeling cannot escape the call of her true mate, even in the wilderness of backcountry Alaska.
An isolated archeological site, a terrified Changeling cub, a secretive research center…. As Kenzie and Josh face the ultimate betrayal, his obsidian eyes promise untold pleasure and hint at dark secrets of his own.

UPCOMING STORIES
Book 4 in my Changeling series is in the works, but there are some other projects ahead of it. I’m currently working on the first in a Changeling trilogy featuring brand new characters to fall in love with. And I’ve just finished up a paranormal romance which I hope will kick off another new series – think Celtic lore collides with Welsh faery legend in present-day America! Shhh — that’s all I can tell you for now! Keep an eye on my website at www.daniharper.com.

RED-HOT EXCERPT from Changeling Moon

“I need you, Connor,” she whispered. Her amber eyes were lit with tenderness, with love, with desire. With a hundred emotions that were all for him. “Now, I need you right now and right here.”
He meant to say I need you, too. Before he could get the words out, however, something primal suddenly slipped its leash. What possessed him went far beyond a human need and he wanted, hungered and craved with a soul-deep yearning that shook him. Before, he had always been careful, even gentle, not wanting to overwhelm her with his Changeling strength. Now, without any warning, he was a creature maddened by thirst, balanced on the brink of a deep mountain lake.
In the blink of an eye, he yanked her hard against him. Took her lips in a bruising kiss and thrust his tongue deep, clutching her ass in vise-like hands. What small part of him was still sane expected her to protest such tactics and shove him away, yet he couldn’t make himself pull back. Instead, a faint growl escaped him. Then her tongue flicked lightly at the corners of his mouth, slid teasingly between his lips. One slender hand knotted itself in his hair as her pelvis rocked into his. The surprise of it held him still for a fraction of an instant, long enough for her to unhook his straining jeans and slide her hand inside.
As her cool fingers caged his rampant cock, he sucked in an empty breath – the air had long since left the room. Slowly, slowly, her hand began to slide up and down, and the beast that had wanted so badly to ravage and take was suddenly at her command. He opened his eyes to find her amber ones fixed on him – and in them was the same primordial need that had overtaken him.
In a heartbeat they were on the floor. A wild desperation to be in one skin drove them to tear at each other’s clothes. She was wet as he pressed against her, wet and hot and hungry for him as he stroked into her. She urged him on, wrapping her legs around him, pulling him in harder, deeper as her pleasure gathered and spiked. Wrapped her arms around him as his body throbbed out his own bliss.

  • I’ve read a lot recently, but the most recent was the Lux series by Jennifer Armentrout. I was fabulous. If you want something not overly discovered, though, it would have to be the Bound Trilogy by I.R. Harris. I met her at a book festival, picked up all three, and got ensnared by them.
