Lover At Last (Black Dagger Brotherhood #11) by J.R. Ward

So finally it was the gay couple from this series that deserved their books as J.R. Ward said it in one of the first pages of this new installment of the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series.

Not worth all the hassle and excitement people had built up during this long wait. I think most of the readers expected some hot man to man action, like we were used to when it was about the straight couples. But I think this went a little to far for the author or the publisher because the actual deed was not as graphic as described in the previous books.

But again J.R. Ward takes it a little further than before and she is still able to keep this long series entertaining for her readers. Where the side stories become a distraction in the previous books are all worked out to be full length thrilling books. Just like this one there is a noise in it, in the form of a side story that has actually nothing to do with Quin and Blay. And I actually skipped some pages. But the parts about Xcor you are forced to read, because there you will find the fine lines that will end up in the full length installment of the next Black Dagger Brotherhood Series. No#12.

Lover At Last (Black Dagger Brotherhood #11)

Qhuinn, son of no one, is used to being on his own. Disavowed from his bloodline, shunned by the aristocracy, he has finally found an identity as one of the most brutal fighters in the war against the Lessening Society. But his life is not complete. Even as the prospect of having a family of his own seems to be within reach, he is empty on the inside, his heart given to another….

Blay, after years of unrequited love, has moved on from his feelings for Qhuinn. And it’s about time: The male has found his perfect match in a Chosen female, and they are going to have a young—just as Qhuinn has always wanted for himself. It’s hard to see the new couple together, but building your life around a pipe dream is just a heartbreak waiting to happen. As he’s learned firsthand.

Fate seems to have taken these vampire soldiers in different directions… but as the battle over the race’s throne intensifies, and new players on the scene in Caldwell create mortal danger for the Brotherhood, Qhuinn finally learns the true definition of courage, and two hearts who are meant to be together… finally become one.

Our favorite quotes from this book!
Goddamn it, he wasn’t going down like a pussy. No ducking, no pathetic oh-please-God-no-saaaaaave-me. Fuck that. He was going to meet death with his fangs bared and his body braced and his heart pounding not from fear, but from a whole boatload of…
“Blow me, Grim Reaper!”

He was the first to reach the aircraft, and he went for the door that by some miracle was facing outward and not into the concrete wall. Wrenching the thing open, and getting out his flashlight, he didn’t know what to expect inside—smoke? Fumes? Blood and body parts?
Zsadist was sitting rigid in a backward-facing seat, his big body strapped in, both hands locked on the armrests. The Brother was staring straight ahead and not blinking.
“Have we stopped moving?” he said hoarsely

I get it. I’ll back off—I’ll live with the consequences. But for the love of God, if there’s a chance—for whatever reason on your side—revenge, curiosity…hell, even if you’ll let me fuck you just once and never, ever again, for the sole reason of driving a stake through my heart? I’ll take it. I’ll take you…any way I can get you.”
He reached out a third time, snaking his hand around the back of Blay’s leg. Stroking. Pleading. “I don’t care what it costs me….”
