(Necropolis Enforcement Files #1)

Reading time:  app 8-10 hours
Themajority of Prosaic City’s residents don’t know that their town exists on top of another place — Necropolis, City of the Undead. For the most part, the two planes of existence manage to remain separate. And when they don’t, Necropolis Enforcement has beings in place to ensure the general human population remains blithely clueless.
Victoria Wolfe is more than just a policewoman. She’s an undercover werewolf assigned by Necropolis Enforcement to work Prosaic City Police’s Night Beat. Victoria’s comfortable working the shift where all the weird comes out to play, especially since her partner is also her perfect man. Or would be, if Victoria could ever work up the nerve to tell him she isn’t like other girls.
It’s hard enough being a werewolf in disguise, but when a creature from the Depths of Hell shows up in an alley preferred by junkies, bums, and hookers, it’s goi

ng to take more than just Victoria’s special gun and werewolf skills to subdue the ancient Sumerian demon. Especially when the demon is merely the start of what appears to be a major takeover attempt by the Prince of Darkness.

Soon all of Necropolis Enforcement’s Undead Brigade is involved in the fight to stop the Prince’s Major Minions from taking over Prosaic City and the rest of the human plane. But it’s Victoria who has to face the Adversary and figure out what intricate plan Lucifer has up his wings before everyone she cares about is destroyed.
In other words, it’s just another day on the Night Beat.

My Thoughts

Wow The Night Beat is serious kick-ass read! The Night Beat is a brilliant first book of gini’s new Necropolis Enforcement Files Series. With Victoria, a strong and determined kick-ass heroine who can change in a wolf/werewolf, hates to fly but is ready to fight the prince from taking over Prosaic City. A city like we, but with a paralel universe only the paranormals can see.

Gini Koch did a fantastic job making The Night Beat a one of a kind book with its realistic world building, mysteries humor, paranormal beings and of course Victoria and her extraordinary team, Necropolis Enforcement’s Undead Brigade. Victoria Wolfe has to do what she can to stop the prince and his evil subjects while fighting her romantic interest in her perfect human partner Jack.

I pointed my gun into the center of it. “This is Prosaic CityPolice, drop your weapons, put your hands up, and come outslowly.”No movement, no noise. No surprise. Isighed. I couldn’t risk a look over my shoulder. I hoped Jack wasstill at the other end of the alley, covering me. “Fine, have ityour way. This is Necropolis Enforcement. Drop any non-organicweapons, put your arms, flippers, claws, tentacles, or any otherextremities up, and walk, slither, stomp, crawl, et cetera, out ofthe darkness or be exterminated with extreme prejudice.” – Gini Koch

Although it is a vital thread through the story the romance is not on a high level and I kind of missed it a little. It is fun to know there was some bed action, but would have been better if I actually could have read about it 🙂 But Victoria’s inner dialogues and fun remarks make it up 100% and more.

Victoria has help from her Necropolis Enforcement’s Undead Brigade. A Great team. Love them all!

Although they were side characters it didn’t feel that way, and they had to work just as hard as the main character to stop this evil from corrupting the world. Sexy Cindy a Succabus (air team) was one of my favorites, she was one of victoria’s sidekicks and just kept on coming with Snarky and fun comments. Besides the Succabus there where also a few vampires and Angels to assist in the air. For covering the grounds and underground she had the help of an other werewolf, zombies and Monty is a Lich who had a pet-worm and many more.

“Slow down!”“Vicki, Vic, Vicster, Vicarino…you freak atgranddaddy speeds, you freak at NASCAR speeds. I’m a formulavehicle and since it makes no difference, I’m going to get us therefaster so I get clawed less.”– Gini Koch

The writing style is similar as Gini’s previous Katherine “Kitty” Katt Series but different all the way. You don’t have to think that you are going to fall in to repeat. But the strong heroine, sexy men and fun comments are a fact.

cover
I really missed kind of the beautiful drawing from the “Kitty” Katt Series, but this cover is for the best! You have to keep these two series separated.

This is a hugely entertaining story although missing for my taste a little on the romance side. I do highly recommend this to all Paranormal lovers 🙂 This is really a series you have to try. I know I will be waiting for book #2!

Happy reading!
