Countess Valeria Karajan- Dracula  from Being Mrs. Dracula by Faith Marlow

Countess Valeria Karajan- Dracula
Being Mrs. Dracula

Name: Countess Valeria Karajan- Dracula

Occupation: I am a noblewoman
Species: Vampire
Speaks:  I was born and raised in Romania, so of course I speak Romanian. Ilona and I learned to speak Russian during our extended stay there with Vlad. German has always been a useful language to know in Europe, so we were well versed in that. We quickly learned French after arriving there and Italian while we were in Palermo. After Vlad became so interested in England, we all learned to speak English as we had expected to travel there as well, but that proved to not be the case.
Age: I was born in 1440, transformed in the year 1462, so I am perpetually 22 years old. I no longer age, but all years counted I would be 572 years old this year.
Height: 5’7
Hair Color:Blonde. Vlad always said my hair looked like rivers of gold.
Eyes: Usually blue, but sometimes when the light hits them just right, it gives them the most peculiar hint of red.
Physical marks: I believe that my most striking physical attribute is my complexion. Vampires have unusually smooth, marble-like skin, very pale.  One benefit of vampirism is wounds heal almost instantly, so I have no scars or blemishes after my transformation. I do have several faint scars, bite marks left by my husband in my mortal life. Love bites, so to speak.

Choose! What do you prefer?
Day or Night: Night
Single or Taken: Widowed
Cat or Dog: I have never kept pets, but between the two I believe I would prefer a cat.
Gun or Knife:  Knife, guns make too much noise.
Upper body or Lower body: I find that both halves are most useful when kept together! But to answer your question seriously, I would say Upper. You can tell a great deal about a person from their eyes, how they look at you. This is important to know when you have lived as long as I have.
Blond or Dark: Dark
Two legs or Four legs: Two
Down town or Nature: Nature. I prefer the solitude, unless I am hungry. It is much easier to find a bite to eat in the city.
Love or Sex:  Love. Sex is but a moment, but love can last an eternity.
Bacon and eggs or Pancakes: Neither are my breakfast of choice but I if I had to pick I would say bacon and eggs. I am a carnivore, so I like protein.
Lips or Neck: Neck, most certainly.
Dead or Alive: undead, so neither and both I suppose.

Character Interview by Faith Marlow
Today we have Valeria from Faith Marlow’s new release, Being Mrs. Dracula!

Q: How old where you when you married Dracula?

Valeria: Twenty-two, which was old for a girl to be marrying at that time. I was fortunate my father did not arrange a marriage for me. I was waiting for Mr. Right…
Q: What where you thinking when you saw the blue marks on your neck after your wedding night? Where they Hickey’s or was Dracula then already something else?
Valeria: When we were first married, he was still mortal but he certainly had a liking for neck, even then.  So at first they were simply hickey’s, but that quickly changed.
Q: But after a few months you couldn’t deny it any more you where tired all the time, had you really no idea that he was drinking your blood didn’t you see the puncture marks in your neck the next morning?
Valeria: Looking back, yes, but I did not want to believe. The punctures would close over quickly, smooth down, and it allowed me to make excuses for him. I did not want to see the truth. I thought vampires were only monsters in stories told to scare children.

Q: Now that you know that you are a vampire. What is your biggest fear?
Valeria: Strange to say, but my biggest fear is still death. I have had far too much death touch my life, so many taken from me.
Q: What is in your refrigerator right now? Can you eat anything? No midnight snack?
Valeria: I have not found food to be palatable; the texture feels wrong in my mouth. I do keep a few wine bottles in the fridge of my own favorite “vintage” on hand in case of emergency.
Q: How do you see your future as Mrs Dracula? Are you staying in the cities your already know or are you going for something new? Is there in the future a possibility for a new Mr Dracula?
Valeria: I have always loved to travel, so I certainly plan on seeing more of the world. Returning to the old cities brings back too many memories, good and bad, so I enjoy seeing new places. As far as a new Mr. Dracula, I do not think that anyone could replace Vlad, which is a good thing.  The world does not need another Vlad  and neither do I. But I have not ruled out falling in love again. I would like to find someone to share my long life with.
Q: Anything you’d like to say to the readers before you have to go?
Valeria: Yes. I hope they enjoy hearing my side of the story, our side of the story as it was not mine alone, but Ilona’s and Fleur’s as well. I shall quote Virginia Woolf, “For most of history, anonymous was a woman”. It is good to not be that woman any more, or to simply be Mrs. Dracula, but to be free to be Valeria. There are more stories yet to be told, and I would like to share those with you one day as well. I believe it will be called “Being Dracula’s Widow”.

Thanks so much Valeria for being here today! It was wonderful to meet you!

When Valeria’s hand was given in marriage to the handsome and powerful Count Vlad Dracula, she dreamed of happiness but instead her life was filled with longing for her absent husband, their country ravaged by war. When Vlad at last returned from the battlefield he was a changed man, an alluring and dangerous creature with a thirst for her blood…and for more wives. Read their story.
